In combating multiple sclerosis it is beneficial - whether you choose a standard medical path, an alternative one, or a combination of them both - to think about a holistic approach. This really means to look at every aspect of your lifestyle to seek ways to improve your well-being. Though many aspects of MS remain a mystery, there is general agreement that working to build a healthy immune system through diet and supplements and looking for ways to keep positive and calm can do wonders in mitigating frequent and severe attacks.
Some suggestions that may prove beneficial include:
Avoiding as much as possible - stress and anxiety. Stressful situations seem to precipitate bad episodes. Now, we know, that in today’s world it is nearly impossible to completely get away from stressful and negative things. So what may be equally important is to work at maintaining a more positive attitude. For some people it may take a big adjustment to learn how to cope calmly with life’s problems, but it has been found that people with MS who can take this approach definitely do better. And in this regard it may be helpful to turn to others who can give you support and understanding.
Try to keep active both mentally and physically. Physical activity is essential to keeping your muscles in good shape and flexible. However, bear in mind that it is not recommended that you get over heated in doing so. Heat - whether by exposure (sunbathing - hot showers and baths) or by exertion through play or work seems to only aggravate MS. So keep a moderate tone for these things. Keeping active mentally - especially if you can find pleasure in some aspect of it will work to keep your mind off negative things and work towards a more positive outlook.
Look into massages as a way to help ease stress and relax your muscles. Acupuncture also, seems to have provided some individuals with relief from pain, spasms and bladder control issues. Although this has not been scientifically proven as yet, it may be worth looking into. Keep in mind however, that only qualified professionals who take care to use sterile techniques should be sought out. People with MS must take special care to avoid any risk of infections.
Sensibly be sure to get enough rest, keeping in mind that the issue remains that your system needs to be built up and not depleted if it is going to keep putting up a good fight.
While you continue to apply healthy principles toward keeping strong and positive it will be important to be watchful of any claims that say they have a cure. It is understandable that each one of us wants to believe that there is one ‘thing’ that will make the difference. But like most people you may have only so much money to apply to your situation. So take the time to research and verify any claims before investing your precious time and energy. And rest assured that there are many people that care and who are willing to help guide you along a path that will help you achieve the best possible results.
