The average person has a very busy do so when they can finally go to bed at night they are ready some peaceful slumber. That isnt always the case though as many people suffer from night time acid reflux. This can prevent them from getting a good night of rest. As a result they get up the next morning irritable and have a hard time focusing on the day ahead. If the acid reflux is happening several times per week at night it can make a person miserable.

There are some ways in which you can alleviate night time acid reflux issues though. First, you need to consider your diet. There are certain types of foods that can trigger it. Those that are spicy are very common as well as too much sugar. Making changes to a healthier diet can help you to get a good night of sleep without problems from acid reflux.

Take the time to chew your food slowly and to drink plenty with your meal. Drink tea or water instead of sugary drinks. Keep the consumption of alcohol to a minimum as well. Dont overeat either as this will likely trigger acid reflux as well. Before you go to bed at night have something to drink that will help to reduce the amount of acid.

If you like milk you can drink it and get additional calcium as well. Some people prefer their mild warm at night but you will get results with a cold glass as well. Drinking a glass of hot tea before bed can help reduce stomach acid as well. Drinking green tea with a meal or after it will also help to encourage proper digestion so that there is less acid available to create such problems.

Such drinks can also curb your hunger later in the evening. Too many people reach for those late night snacks. Not only do they increase the risk of acid reflux but they can result in additional pounds which further exaggerate the issue.

The reason why you can experience acid reflux at night has to do with the body lying down. This can result in more acid flowing back to the esophagus than it would when you are sitting or standing up. By making your bed higher at the head of it you will sleep at an angle that naturally encourages that acid to go back towards the stomach.

You can easily add a couple of boards or some bricks under the front part of the bed. You can also use a thicker pillow or one that is designed just for acid reflux reduction. Research has shown lying on your left side while sleeping will also help to reduce the amount of acid that can cause acid reflux.

If you find you suffer from night time acid reflux on a regular basis then do something to prevent it. Too many people wait until they end up with the symptoms before they do anything. For example taking antacids after meals will help to alleviate the additional acid right away. By neutralizing it you can avoid suffering from acid reflux. Even if you do experience it there will be less acid so the pain wont be as severe.

Everyone needs a good night of sleep in order to function like they should. Dont let night time acid reflux take that away from you. It will affect more areas of your life than you may be aware of. If you arent able to get results from such measures then you definitely want to seek medical attention.

That is because your acid reflux could be the result of something more such as an ulcer or a hernia. It could also be triggered by various types of medications you are taking for other illnesses. Identifying the source of night time acid reflux will help you to find a cure for it. That way you can get back to enjoying those hours of slumber without painful interruptions.
